Anti-anxiety: anxiolytics—Valium type medications
Anxiolytics work very well. They provide quick and significant relief of severe anxiety. The bad news is that they are very addicting and hard to discontinue. The addiction is not a true addiction; it is more of a dependency. In other words, you become dependent on the meds to allay your anxiety. Your anxiety will quickly flare when coming off of the meds. Therefore, they should only be used in conjunction with an aggressive program to treat anxiety. However, it’s often impossible to engage in anxiety-reducing exercises if you are consumed by anxiety. So short-term relief from anxiolytics can be very helpful to get you started. Uncontrolled anxiety is a solvable problem with the correct treatment plan. Meds are not the definitive answer.
