Forgiveness and Acceptance

I Understand Your Anger, but You Need to Get Over It.

This is the place where I have to get off of the train.  There are hundreds of thousands of books that have been written on this subject.  This is the area that I struggle with the most.  I will only make a few comments regarding what does not work.

  • Positive thinking
  • Denial
  • ”Intellectual” forgiveness and acceptance
  • Extreme adherence to religious beliefs

To deeply connect with your anger and let it go is by far the most difficult part of this process.  My personal hero is Nelson Mandela, who was not only able to forgive his captors but place them in positions of responsibility.

The true antithesis of anger is forgiveness and acceptance.  How a given person successfully arrives at that place is one of life’s ultimate challenges.
